Dear Valued Customer:

This letter provides notification about the features that will be obsolete, or discontinued, in the upcoming PowerBuilder 2022 release. and therefore will require you remediate before being able to upgrade to PowerBuilder 2022.

Obsolete Features:

Obsolete features are features that are available but are no longer eligible for technical support and will no longer be enhanced.

  • The PBC (PowerBuilder Compiler, the standlone utility for doing automated compilation) will no longer be eligible for technical support. Customers can either continue using the feature without support, or switch to the PBAutoBuild utility.
  • Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA). For customers who have enabled the legacy MSAA accessibility feature, please migrate to the Microsoft UI Automation accessibility feature.

Discontinued Features:

Discontinued features are features that are completely removed from the product. Before you upgrade to PowerBuilder 2022, please remediate these features. If you want to keep any of these discontinued features, please stay with the PowerBuilder 2019 R3 LTS version. Do not upgrade to PowerBuilder 2021, because there won’t be a LTS version for PowerBuilder 2021.

  • JDK 1.6 and Java features. The following features will stop working:
    • Calling Java classes
    • Building EJB clients
    • Java settings in System Options
    • JDBC database connection
    • DataWindow SaveAs XSLFOP!
  • Built-in Rich Edit Control. For customers using the built-in Rich Edit Control as the rich edit control, please switch to the current built-in version of TX Text Control ActiveX.
  • Web Service DataWindow. For customers who use Web Service DataWindow, please use RESTClient object to access the RESTful Web APIs and load data into DataWindow.
  • OData data source. For customers who use OData data source , please use HTTPClient and RESTClient objects to connect to RESTful web services.
  • .NET Web service target (SOAP web service). For customers who use .NET Web services, please migrate to C# Web APIs provided by Appeon.
  • .NET assembly target. For customers who use the .NET assembly target, please migrate to the C# Projects target.
  • Creating Web service proxy for connecting to SOAP server. For customers who build Web service client that connects to SOAP server, please use HTTPClient to call SOAP Web service. For more information, refer to this knowledgebase article: Call SOAP Web Service Using HTTPClient Object.
